If you've been wondering about taking a cruise trip and but don't know where to go or even if it's really your thing then what about a 6 night river trip in Europe?

If you’ve never been on a cruise trip before and feel like dipping your toes in the water then a short six night seven day cruise could be just the thing.

Barge cruising on some of Europe’s finest waterways and canals is big business, and the choice of cruises and destinations on offer are growing all the time. For the discerning traveler river cruises open up inland England, France, Germany, Italy, Scotland, Holland, Belgium and the Czech Republic .

Barges don’t travel far or travel fast so with the new slow travel fashion you can cycle the tow paths and enjoy local food and wine along the waterway or canal of your chosen route.

Barge cruise boats usually accommodate from six to a maximum of twelve passengers, although it is possible with some companies to hire the entire boat for your own personal cruise holiday.

The cruises normally include an open bar, all gourmet meals and wine, all shore excursions and bicycles for the use of the guests. Each cabin has a private bathroom with showers and some have suites with baths. Some barges even have saunas, hot tubs or jacuzzis on deck too. There are not normally any telephones, TVs or computers on board but pay phones are commonly found along the waterways.

Are Barge Cruises Expensive?

River cruise boats come in many styles and differing levels of luxury, from a rustic feel like a cosy country pub to an elegant country hotel . The pricing of course varies according to the standard of the boat and the capacity of cruisers.

Some of the smaller vessels are ideal for families, groups of friends, or even business trips when chartered privately.

Are Cruise Trips Boring?

Not at all, historical buildings and shopping trips are planned into your holiday itinerary for example in France a visit to a nearby chateaux may take up your morning and an afternoon trip may be planned to a famous vineyard. Or even a hot air balloon ride above the vines.

Theme River Cruises

Many barge companies now offer a wide range of themed cruises – GObarging have this range on offer

And you thought maybe that cruises were boring – think again and explore the waterways of inland Europe at a gentle pace.
